ChondroGELesis: Hydrogels to harness the chondrogenic potential of stem cells

چکیده
The extracellular matrix is a highly complex microenvironment, whose various components converge to regulate cell fate. Hydrogels, as water-swollen polymer networks composed by synthetic or natural materials, are ideal candidates create biologically active substrates that mimic these matrices and target behaviour for desired tissue engineering application. Indeed, the ability tune their mechanical, structural, biochemical properties provides framework recapitulate native tissues. This review explores how hydrogels have been engineered harness chondrogenic response of stem cells repair damaged cartilage tissue. signalling processes involved in hydrogel-driven chondrogenesis also discussed, identifying critical pathways should be taken into account during hydrogel design.

Study of chondrogenic potential of stem cells in co-culture with chondrons
Objective(s): Three-dimensional biomimetic scaffolds have widespread applications in biomedical tissue engineering due to similarity of their nanofibrous architecture to native extracellular matrix. Co-culture system has stimulatory effect on chondrogenesis of adult mesenchymal stem cells. This work presents a co-culture strategy using human articular chondrons and adipose-derived stem cells (A...
متن کاملHybrid Protein–Glycosaminoglycan Hydrogels Promote Chondrogenic Stem Cell Differentiation
Gelatin-hyaluronic acid (Gel-HA) hybrid hydrogels have been proposed as matrices for tissue engineering because of their ability to mimic the architecture of the extracellular matrix. Our aim was to explore whether tyramine conjugates of Gel and HA, producing injectable hydrogels, are able to induce a particular phenotype of encapsulated human mesenchymal stem cells without the need for growth ...

Magnetic nanoparticles (MNPs) are attractive tools to overcome limitations of current regenerative medicine strategies, demonstrating potential to integrate therapeutic and diagnostic functionalities in highly controlled systems. In traditional tissue engineering (TE) approaches, the MNPs association with stem cells in a three-dimensional (3D) template offers the possibility to achieve a mechan...

متن کاملTGF-β1 conjugated chitosan collagen hydrogels induce chondrogenic differentiation of human synovium-derived stem cells
BACKGROUND Unlike bone tissue, articular cartilage regeneration has not been very successful and has many challenges ahead. We have previously developed injectable hydrogels using photopolymerizable chitosan (MeGC) that supported growth of chondrocytes. In this study, we demonstrate a biofunctional hydrogel for specific use in cartilage regeneration by conjugating transforming growth factor-β1 ...
